Copying an Existing Assessment
Sometime it is necessary to make a copy of an existing assessment for a special-need student who needs extra time to complete the quiz/test/exam or someone who has missed an assessment with a legitimate reason. Simply follow the steps below to make a copy of an existing assessment and make sure to check "Based on an exiting assessment" under the Template section.
Step 1: Under Course Tools, select Assessments (see figure below). Note: Assessments must be created within the Build Tab.

Step 2: From the main Assessment page, click the Create Assessment button (see figure below).

Step 3: The Create Assessment screen will appear (see figure below). Type a title for your assessment within the Title text box. For example, you want to make a copy of Chapter 1 Quiz for Joe Smith, who needs some extra time for the assessment, or who has missed the assessment for a legitimate reason.

Step 4: (OPTIONAL) Enter a description for your assessment within the Description text box.
Step 5: Next to Item Visibility, select whether to show or hide the item. Note: The Assessment CANNOT be made visible until there is at least one question added).
Step 6: Fill in the Grade Book Column Name text box. Note: The assessment title will automatically populate the Grade Book Column Name text box, but this can be changed.
Step 7: Within the Type section, you must choose the type of assessment (Quiz, Survey, or Self Test) by selecting the appropriate radio button.
Step 8: Within the Template section, click on "Base on an existing assessment", and pull down to find the correct assessment you want to copy. In this case, it is the Chapter 1 Quiz.
Step 9: Click the Save button if you wish to save your assessment, but not add questions at this time. Click the Cancel button iIf you do not wish to save your assessment, or click the Save and Add Questions button to save your assessment and add questions to your new assessment.
Step 10: Follow directions on Selective Release to make the quiz available for Joe Smith only.
