Creating and Adding New Questions to an Assessment
Step 1: Under Course Tools, select Assessments (see figure below). Note: You must be within the Build Tab when working with Assessments.

Step 2: From the main Assessment page, select the Assessment that you would like to add questions to (see figure below).

Step 3: The main page for your assessment will appear (see figure below). Select the Create Questions button to create new questions for this assessment.

Step 4: From the Create Questions ActionLink menu, select the type of question (e.g., Multiple Choice) (see figure below).
Step 5: From the Create Multiple Choice Question screen (see figure below), type a title for your question within the Title text box, and enter your question text within the Question Text text box. Note: You may format your question text using the HTML editor and/or add a mathematical equation by clicking the
icon next to insert equation.
Type your question text in the Question Text text box first, and then copy and paste this into the Title text box.

Step 6: (OPTIONAL) If an image is to be included in the question text, click the Browse button located to the right of the Image text box and select an image file to be included from your Blackboard files or from your computer.
Step 7: Complete the Answers section by:
a) Choosing the Select Mode (i.e., choose One Answer if there is only one correct answer to your question, and choose Multiple Answers if there is more than one correct answer to your question).
b) Enter the wording and feedback for each answer choice in the corresponding text boxes for Answer 1, Answer 2, etc. (refer to figure above). If necessary, click the Create Additional Answers button to create additional answer choices.
c) Select the Correct Response for your question by checking the box next to the correct answer choice. Note: If Multiple Responses are required, than multiple correct responses must be checked.
Step 8: Within the Settings section, select appropriate options for Answer layout, Answer labels, Randomize answer ordering, Grading schem, and Allow negative score.
Step 9: Click the
icon to expand the More Options section. Within More Options, you can set up additional assessment options (e.g., General Feedback and Section Designer Notes). Additionally, you can assign this question to an Existing Category or Create a New Category by filling in the appropriate text box.
Step 10: Click the Save button to save your question. Your question will be listed in the Question Database within the selected category or newly created category. If you did NOT select a category for your question, it will appear in the Uncategorized Questions category.
