Creating a Chat or Whiteboard Room
Step 1: Under Course Tools, select Chat (see figure below). Note: You must be in the Build or Teach Tabs.

Step 2: Click Create Chat or Whiteboard Room (see figure below). Note: The Common Room is the default room that comes with every Blackboard course. It includes both a Chat and a Whiteboard Room.

Step 3: The Create Chat or Whiteboard Room screen appears (see figure below). Enter a title for your chat or whiteboard room within the Title text box.

Step 4: (OPTIONAL) Enter a description for your room within the Description text box. Next to Item Visibility, select whether to show or hide the item. Note: By default, the 'Show Item' radio button is selected.
Step 5: Enter the maximum number of users for this room within the Maximum Users box. Note: 1,000 is the maximum number of users you can enter.
Step 6: In the Type section, select whether this room includes a Chat and Whiteboard, Chat only, or Whiteboard only.
Step 7: Click the More Options icon
to expand this section.
Step 8: In the User Permissions section, select the check boxes according to your preferences to allow users to hide or show the chat or whiteboard areas, allow private chat messages and allow alias. Note: Private chat messages are NOT logged.
Step 9: In the Enable logging section, clear (uncheck) the check box if you DO NOT want to maintain a chat room log. Note: By default, the system keeps a log of activity in this chat room.
Step 10: Click the Save button to add the new chat or whiteboard room.
