Creating an Assignment
Step 1: Under Course Tools, select Assignments (see figure below). Note: Assignments must be created within the Build Tab.

Step 2: From the main Assignment page (see figure below), click the Create Assignment button.

Step 3: The Create Assignment page will appear (see figure below). Type a title for your assignment within the Title text box.

Step 4: (OPTIONAL) Enter a description for your assignment within the Description text box.
Step 5: Next to Item Visibility, select whether to show or hide the item. Note: The Assignment CANNOT be made visibile until it is assigned to an individual or group of students.
Step 6: Enter instructions in the Instructions text box. Note: You may format your instructions using the HTML editor.
Step 7: If you wish to attach a file associated with your assignment, click the Add Attachments button (and select a file or files to attach from your Blackboard files or from your computer).
Step 8: Within the Student Submission Format section, select either Text with attachments or Web site to indicate the submission format for the assignment.
Step 9: Within the Assignment Recipients section, choose one of the following:
a) Decide later to save the assignment as a draft and send later
b) All Students Individually to send the assignment to each student individually. Note: If you select this option, you can send additional instructions to groups of students.
c) Groups of Students to send the assignment to student groups. Note: To set up this option, you will need to set up student groups.
Step 10: Within the Dates section, choose a Due Date and Cutoff Date.
Step 11: Complete the Grading section by:
a) Checking the Allow the assignment to be graded box if you would like to be able to grade this assignment Note: This will automatically set up a column within the Grade Book.
b) Enter a Grade Book Column Title in the text box. Note: The Assignment Title serves as the Grade Book column title by default, but you may change the column title if you wish.
c) Select Numeric Grade or Alphanumeric Grade, based on the type of grade that will be entered for the assignment. Note: If Numeric Grade is selected, enter the number of Out of points in the corresponding text box.
Step 12: Click the
icon to expand the the More Options section. Within More Options, you can set up additional assignment options (including Grade Release, Taking Back Submissions, Publishing Submissions, and Section Instructor Notification).
Step 13: Click the Save button to finish creating your assignment, and to return to the main Assignment page.
Step 14: Your new assignment will be listed on the main Assignments page (see figure below).
