Adding Entries to Media Library Collections

Step 1: Under Course Tools, select Media Library (see figure below). Note: You must be within the Build Tab to create and/or add content to a Media Library collection.

Step 2: This tutorial focuses on adding entries to existing Media Library collections. Note: One Media Library collection, Glossary, is automatically created for you by default. We will use this Media Library collection as our example. For information on creating new Media Library collections, see the 'Creating a Media Library Collection' tutorial. Select the Glossary link (see figure below).

Step 3: Select the 'Create Entry' button to add an entry to the Glossary (see figure below).

Step 4: From the 'Create Entry' page (see figure below), type a title for your glossary entry within the 'Title' text box.

Step 5: In the 'Description' text box, type a definition or description for your entry.

Step 6: To include a file with the entry (e.g., image or audio file), select the Browse button and add the appropriate file. Note: If you are unfamiliar with how to navigate to and/or add files within Blackboard, see the 'Managing Files' tutorial. In the 'Keywords' text box, enter keywords separated by commas.

Step 7: Select the collection(s) in which you will include your entry. Note: By default, the entry appears in the Glossary collecton. If you have already created other collections, they'll be listed in the 'Include in collections' area. You can select the appropriate check box(es) to add the entry to additional collections.

Step 8: Select the 'More Options' link to display the Entry Linking options. Choose the appropriate Entry Linking radio button for your entry. Note: By default, the 'Automatic: all instances' radio button is selected.

Step 9: Click the 'Save' button.

Step 10: The Glossary collection screen appears with your new entry (see figure below).

Step 11: View the actionLink menu associated with your new entry. Note: You can preview, edit, and/or remove your entries. See the 'Using ActionLink Menus' tutorial if you are unfamiliar with ActionLink menus. Select 'preview' to view your entry (see figure below).

Step 12: Close the preview window by clicking the 'Close this window' link. Note: If you need to modify your entry, select 'Edit' from the ActionLink menu and repeat steps 4 through 9. Once you are satisfied with your entry, select Media Library (under Course Tools) to update course links. Click the 'Manage Media Library Links' button (see figure below).

Step 13: From the 'Manage Media Library Links' page, select the 'Update Now' button (see figure below). Note: The entry is now linked to any text within your course that contains the exact word (or phrase) used in the entry title.

Step 14: Select the 'OK' button (see figure below) to return to the Media Library tool. You can repeat the process to add additional entries.
